WHERE ARE WE STAYING?

We are staying at the Villa Codevi Hotel which is located in Dajabon, Dominican Republic and Ouanaminthe, Haiti. All ChiroMissions activities, events, and transportation are based here. Registration/room rate is based on double occupancy - if you are traveling with friends/family we will place you with them, otherwise we will assign you a roommate.  You may request a single room for an additional charge. Triples are also available subject to availability. You are welcome to bring your family and children on this mission trip.

IS IT SAFE?

It is very safe. We have hired our older children at the orphanage to
be your translators, to carry your bags and assist with
transportation, communication, and other needs.  We have our own bus,a car, two motorcycles and two three wheeled vehicles. We often work from schools, churches, hospitals and community centers, and the locals are very friendly and happy to help you. Yes, you may be sent to some “rough” areas where extreme poverty exists, but again, the locals, translators and our security team and volunteers are very
welcoming and helpful.  As in any unfamiliar situation, be respectful
of your hosts, and use common sense

CAN I GO EARLY/STAY LATER?

You are welcome to visit Haiti as long as you wish.  However any
additional travel will be on your own and not affiliated with
Chiromissions. We strongly advise that you use our administrator,
drivers and translators to take you around.

WILL I NEED MONEY?

You will need to have money for lunch on arrival and departure dates. We will have dinner on the first night and breakfast on the last day. It is always a good idea to have some pocket money for water and food when out in the field.  Also money for tips for the translators and orphans who will carry your bags etc. Perhaps some cash for a donation at a church service. Perhaps for a souvenir. Any other spending money you want to bring is up to you. You do not want to carry large sums of money around for obvious reasons. They have ATM machines but these machines will dispense Haitian Gould. The stores will take American dollars but will give you Haitian Gould back So have a lot of small bills.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY TRIP OR TRIP IS CANCELLED?

There are no refunds. You will be credit toward another ChiroMissions trip. We normal have a minimal of four mission trip a year.

FAQ FOR THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC MISSION

GENERAL TRAVEL INFO

The main flight  from the US is via Miami.  There are also direct flights from JFK on JetBlue.  We will meet you at the airport and take you to the hotel.   If you plan to arrive early/stay later, you will be responsible for your own transportation to/from the airport.  There is a $10.00 (cash) per person tourist tax payable on arrival in the DR.

WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING?

Passport. Make a copy of your passport and have it with you in case your passport is lost. Send a copy of your passport to yourself via e-mail. This can help you; I am told, to get an easy replacement. Presently, there is a $20.00 fee to enter each country and a $10 fee to exit each country. if you are from the USA you must have the money in American currency. Put this money in your wallet at the beginning of the trip and save for this reason. You will need to buy a visitors card at the Airport when you enter the terminal. This will cost you $10.00. Total entrance and exit fees is approximately $60. US and International law mandate that you pay this fee directly. You need to fill out the form. Please remember to have the following telephone numbers with you so you can call us if there is a change in your arrival time or if there is an emergency.

WE STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST STAYING AT A DIFFERENT RESORT

as we can not guarantee transportation or security at other locations.   Plus, you are likely to miss out on the additional events, networking, and comraderie that takes place “after hours.”  We have been staying at this resort for years, as their location, facilities, and pricing are safe and very reasonable.

CAN I BRING KIDS/FAMILY ON THE TRIP?

Friends, family, and staff are welcome, and are encouraged to join you as volunteers to helping organize the crowds, educate the public, and generally share the love!  Many who volunteer this way have their own breakthrough, life changing experiences! It can be a great experience for older children, especially teenagers, as long as they are mature enough to behave appropriately and respectfully in the field.
